PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a motor are provided to control the voltage of an external power source according to a sensed current by sensing an operation state through current change. CONSTITUTION: A current detection unit(101) senses a current flowing into an electric motor(300). A control mode power supply unit(105) comprises a first switch interlinking an external power supply to the electric motor. The control unit(107) compares the sensed current with a previous current. The control unit adjusts an off period of the first switch by using a reference value. The control unit blocks a voltage provided from an external power supply to the electric motor for the off period by switching off the first switch according to the off period of the first switch. A current phase sensing unit(103) senses the phase of the current flowing into the electric motor. A voltage phase sensing unit(106) senses the phase of the voltage provided from the external power supply. |
