The belt has teeth (3) made of ethylene alpha-olefin elastomer e.g. ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) or ethylene-propylene monomer (EPM). A woven or non-woven exterior coating (5) is provided on flanks (8) of the teeth. The teeth are coated with a barrier layer or film (4) that is made of thermoplastic material such as thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV). The external coating is partially included in a portion of thickness of the barrier layer. An independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating a belt.
