Disclosed is an optical device (20) in which an optical element (6) having a light guide path (8) formed therein is joined to a substrate (2), and the light guide path (8) and a thin-film heater (4) for heating the light guide path (8) are formed on a surface facing the substrate (2) of the optical element (6). The optical element (6) and the substrate (2) are joined by a first joining part (12) and a second joining part (14) composed of a metal material, and the thin-film heater (4) and the wires on the substrate (2) are electrically connected by way of the first joining part (12) and the second joining part (14). As a result of adopting this type of structure, the wires for electrical connection do not have to be provided separately, excess area on the optical element (6) is eliminated and size can be reduced, and the manufacturing process can be simplified.
