<p>Provided is a drive method for a display panel. Said drive method reduces power consumption while minimizing losses in display quality felt by a user. The provided drive method displays luminances between a black luminance and a white luminance by applying potentials between a black-level potential (VB) and a white-level potential (VW) to a plurality of column lines (202), synchronizing on the application of selection voltages (VS) to a plurality of row lines (201). Changes are made such that: the difference between the black-level potential (VB) and the white-level potential (VW) in a first environment, in which the black luminance is equal to a diffuse reflection luminance at the display surface as a result of external light incident thereupon, is greater than the difference between the black-level potential (VB) and the white-level potential (VW) in a second environment, in which the diffuse reflection luminance is greater than that in the first environment; and the black luminance in the second environment is less than or equal to the diffuse reflection luminance in the second environment and greater than the black luminance in the first environment.</p> |
