The present invention relates to a method for producing hydrogen from a gaseous charge including hydrogen sulfide, wherein said charge is placed in contact with a material including at least one initial metal sulfide so as to produce hydrogen and a transformed metal sulfide, said initial metallic sulfide being a non-stoichiometric sulfide of a metal of group VIIIB of Mendeleev's periodic table.
