The invention relates to an ionization method for ionizing, using pulses of ionization radiation (S), an analyte to be examined by way of ion mobility spectrometry, a pulse sequence (120) being modulated with a known time-variable impression pattern (130; 140). The invention further relates to an ionization device (108) for carrying out said method and to an ion mobility spectrometry method and an ion mobility spectrometry device which use the ionization method and/or the ionization device.
