Provided are a composite, wherein a nanocrystalline metal oxide is bonded to a structure comprising silica nanofibers, and a method for producing the same. The silica nanofiber/nanocrystalline metal oxide composite is produced by: (1) a step for associating a polymer, which has a straight-chain polyethyleneimine skeleton, in an aqueous medium in the presence of ice; (2) a step for adding an alkoxysilane to the aqueous medium obtained in (1) to thereby form composite nanofibers comprising the aforesaid associate coated with silica, and allowing the fibers to spontaneously form a network type disk-shaped structure; (3) a step for mixing the disk-shaped structure obtained in (2) with a hydrolyzable metal compound to deposit a metal oxide on the fiber surface; and (4) a step for baking the disk-shaped structure obtained in (3) and thus removing the polymer in the fibers to thereby give silica nanofibers, while bonding the metal oxide, in the form of nanocrystals, to the fibers. In particular, a composite comprising zinc oxide serves as a luminescent material.
|
