EXTERNAL RESONATOR-TYPE SEMICONDUCTOR LASER AND RAMAN AMPLIFIER USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external resonator-type semiconductor laser emitting laser light of a stable oscillation frequency and having an inexpensive and simpler structure; and to provide a Raman amplifier using the same. SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser includes: a gain chip 11 having a rear end surface 11a and an emitting end surface 11b formed by cleavage and an active layer 110 disposed ranging from the rear end surface 11a to the emitting end surface 11b and generating light by drive power current supply, and emitting the light generated by the active layer 110 from the emitting end surface; and an optical fiber 1 having an end surface 1a opposed to the emitting end surface 11b with a predetermined space left in an optical axis direction and directly photo-coupled with the gain chip 11.
