摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of estimating the heat release rate of an engine using a Wiebe function model, properly calculating function model parameters of a Wiebe function, thereby achieving a highly accurate estimation processing of the heat release rate. SOLUTION: In the method of estimating heat release rate of the engine, average cylinder inner pressure P in a prescribed time period after a fuel injection, volume efficiency Veff, fuel injection pressure Pc, EGR rate EGR, engine rotation speed Ne, fuel injection quantity q, and average cylinder inner temperature T in the prescribed time period after the fuel injection are set as operating condition parameters. Based on these operating condition parameters and model constants A-H, a function model parameter X is calculated according to equation: X=A×P<SP>B</SP>×Veff<SP>C</SP>×Pc<SP>D</SP>×EGR<SP>E</SP>×Ne<SP>F</SP>×q<SP>G</SP>×exp(H/T).
