Olefin polymers which can be processed into substantially streak-free film are made by catalytically polymerizing at least one mono-1-olefin to a solid polymer and treating it with a diketone to remove catalyst residues, and then contacting the treated product with water vapour at a temperature of from 220 DEG to 275 DEG F. for a period of time sufficient to yield a polymer product which when extruded into film will produce a substantially streak-free film. The water vapour may be mixed with an inert gas. The catalyst is generally of the Ziegler-Natta type. The 1-olefin may be ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 1-pentene, or 3-methyl-1-butene. The process may be effected continuously and the polymerization effected in the presence of hydrogen. The Specification contains a long list of diketones of which acetylacetone is preferred. The Specification also describes in detail a continuous bulk process of carrying out the process and illustrates it with a flow diagram.
