PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an apparatus and a method for identifying a location of a missed element in an infrared camera so as to previously find the location of the missed element in the infrared camera. SOLUTION: The infrared camera comprising a plurality of the elements for detecting a signal in response to a temperature condition in a monitored area is provided with control sections (11, 12) for mapping a pixel having the same measurement value as the neighboring pixel as 1 in a plurality of image data obtained by imaging of the infrared camera in different temperature conditions, and identifying the element common to all image data and corresponding to the pixel mapped as 1 as the missed element if the missed element for substituting and outputting the data of the neighboring normal element is included in a portion of a plurality of the elements since it can not detect a normal signal.
