PURPOSE: A chiller and a control method for the same are provided to minimize the inflow of over-heated refrigerant into a compressor by optimizing the opening degree of an economizer expansion device. CONSTITUTION: A chiller comprises a compressor(2), a condenser(4), an economizer heat exchanger(6), an expansion device(8), an evaporator(10), a refrigerant inlet channel(12), an economizer expansion device(14), and a controller. The compressor has a variable operation capacity. The economizer heat exchanger comprises a first flow channel(28) through which a part of refrigerant compressed by the compressor passes and cools down and a second flow channel(30) through which refrigerant for cooling the refrigerant in the first flow channel passes. The refrigerant inlet channel allows the refrigerant compressed by the compressor to pass through the second flow channel and flow into the compressor. The economizer expansion device expands the compressed refrigerant before passing through the second flow channel. The controller regulates the opening degree of the economizer expansion device. |
