PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device eliminating pressure unevenness in display even when a liquid crystal display panel and a protective plate are disposed close to each other, and to provide a liquid crystal display device achieving both of a thinner device and a reduced cost of manufacture. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer disposed between two opposing transparent substrates (SUB1, SUB2) and a protective plate PP disposed close to one surface of the liquid crystal display panel, wherein a contact preventing means (B, C) is provided on at least one of the protective plate and a corner of the transparent substrate placed close to the protective plate, the means preventing the protective plate and the corner from being in contact with each other when pressure toward the liquid crystal display panel is added to a periphery of the protective plate.
