PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data reading apparatus that speedily starts data processing using data read from a detachable recording medium such as an optical disk. SOLUTION: When the optical disk (recording medium) is mounted first, the data reading apparatus 1 being a disk drive built in a data processor 2 reads part of data recorded by the optical disk and stores the data in a storage memory (memory) 12. When reading the data from the optical disk D, the data reading apparatus 1 reads the data stored in the storage memory 12 and outputs the read data via a buffer memory 13 until data reading from the optical disk D is actually started or along with data reading from the optical disk D.
