PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier which achieves: suppression of reduction in a charging level due to transition of a toner surface treating agent to the carrier surface in an initial stage of electrophotographic development; maintaining of a charge amount of the carrier in long-term use of an electrophotographic developer accompanying the increase in the number of developed sheets in electrophotographic development; and suppression of reduction in the charging property of the carrier in a high temperature and high humidity environment or low temperature and low humidity environment, and to provide a method for producing the carrier. SOLUTION: The carrier for electrophotography has a resin-coated surface, wherein the resin comprises a mixture of a silicone resin having no nitrogen atom as a main resin and a resin having a carbon chain and containing a nitrogen atom. In a portion close to the surface of the resin-coated carrier, an abundance ratio N/Si of N atoms to Si atoms in the resin ranges from 0.02 to less than 0.20. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
