APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR IDLE MODE HANDOVER IN A HEREFOGENEOUS WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An idle mode handover method in a heterogeneous wireless communication system is provided for a single radio MS connected to a non-WiMAX(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) wireless communication system to perform the idle mode handover to a WiMAX wireless communication system. CONSTITUTION: A single radio MS(Mobile Station)(210) acquires the HA(Home Agent) address of the single radio MS from a pre-registered ASN-GW(Access Service Network GateWay)(240). A BS(Base Station)(220) transmits a message for requesting the registration of an ASN-GW(210) as a new FA(Foreign Agent) of the single radio MS. If the message which demands to register the ASN-GW as the new FA of the single radio MS is received from the pre-registered ASN-GW, the BS establishes an HA(Home Agent)(250) and a data path. The BS registers the ASN-GW as the new FA of the single radio MS.
