摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect existence of sticking failure of an atmospheric pressure sensor by a method different from former methods. <P>SOLUTION: Atmospheric pressure around a vehicle is estimated based on an operation state of an engine. The estimated value is renewed when renewal conditions are satisfied and is changed stepwise. When atmospheric pressure around the vehicle tends to reduce, and when the estimated value is less than a value detected by the atmospheric pressure sensor during a period from establishment of failure detection start conditions until renewal of the estimated value, it is determined that the atmospheric pressure sensor is normal (a) if the maximum change width of the detected value of the atmospheric pressure sensor during the period is not less than a sticking failure determination threshold value, and it is determined that sticking failure occurs (b) if absolute value of change quantity is less than the sticking failure determination threshold value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
