PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide black toner for developing an electrostatic charge, which is not splashed within an image forming apparatus even if a large number of pieces of printing is performed under a high-temperature high-humidity condition, and which does not cause fogging to printed images, is capable of achieving low-temperature fixing, is excellent in offset-resistance and is excellent in heat-resistance condensation; and to provide a method for producing the black toner. SOLUTION: The black toner for developing the electrostatic charge contains at least a resin and carbon black. The resin contains a crystalline sulfonated polyester resin having as a copolymer component a divalent or higher valent carboxylic acid having a sulfonic acid group, the acid value of the crystalline sulfonated polyester resin being 5-30 mgKOH/g and pH of the carbon black being 7.0-10.0.
