<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device for an outboard engine installable in various hulls by keeping short the total length from a steering wheel to a helm mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The steering device 16 of the outboard engine steers the outboard engine by operating the helm mechanism 42 by operation of the steering wheel 37. This steering device 16 includes an electric assist mechanism 41 for assisting the operation of the steering wheel based on steering torque acting on the steering wheel, A driving shaft 67 of the helm mechanism is arranged in parallel to a steering wheel output shaft 48 of the steering wheel.
