<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical position detector and a display device with position detection function, preventing erroneous detection of the position of a target object, due to infrared communication even when a system using infrared light for position detection is adopted. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical position detector 10 and the display device with position detection function 100, an intensity distribution is formed in a detection region 10R by a position detection light L2 emitted from a light emitting element 12, and the position detection light L2 reflected on a target object Ob is received by a photodetector 30 to detect the position of the target object Ob. The optical position detector 10 and the display device with position detection function 100 include a communication signal detector 55 for detecting whether an infrared communication signal L5 is contained in the result of light receiving by the photodetector 30.
