<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reader reading a one-dimensional bar code with high accuracy by a unidirectional scanning. <P>SOLUTION: The bar code reader includes a second unit 40 reading the one-dimensional bar code 810 by the scanning by laser light 700; and a first unit 30, moving an irradiation position of the laser light 700 perpendicular wit respect to a direction of the scanning. The first unit 30 moves the irradiation position of the laser light 700, based on a reading error generating by the second unit 40.
