PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure telescopic operability and column rigidity, by restraining deformation of an outer column when fixing a column side bracket by welding, in a steering device for a vehicle. SOLUTION: An inner column 12a and an outer column 12b mutually slidably fitted in the axial direction, rotatably support a steering shaft. The outer column 12a is formed in a shape of arranging contact parts 27, 36(28) and 36(29) slidably contacting with the outer periphery of the inner column 12b and noncontact parts 30, 31 and 32 of not contacting by arranging a clearance S between the outer periphery of the inner column 12b and itself in a position separate in the peripheral direction to these contact parts.
