PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element holding structure that aligns rotation centers of optical elements with one another, minimizes the occupancy volume by reducing the thickness of a holding fixture with an optical element holding fixture almost as large as the optical elements, reduces the distance between the optical elements and prevents backlash or displacement of the holding fixture, and to provide an optical system using the structure. SOLUTION: The optical element holding structure includes: the optical element holding fixture 2 which holds the optical elements 1 and is almost as large as the optical elements 1; and a spherical surface part receiving fixture 3 which movably receives a spherical surface part 6 of the optical element holding fixture 2. The optical element holding fixture 2 internally has an optical element holding part 10 for holding the optical elements 1 and the spherical surface part 6 of a spherical shape provided on the outer circumferential surface. The spherical surface part receiving fixture 3 internally has an optical element holding fixture holding part 12 for holding the optical element holding fixture 2 and a spherical surface hollow 7, which has the same radius as that of the spherical surface part 6 and receives the spherical surface part 6 slidably, on the inner circumferential surface.
