PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera body which is alowed to accurately and smoothly connect to an image pickup unit when the image pickup unit is detachably attached to the camera body. SOLUTION: The camera body 1 includes a recess 1A where the image pickup unit 2 is attachably and detachably arranged, the image pickup unit 2 including an optical system configured to guide incident light from a subject, an image pickup device configured to convert a subject image guided by the optical system into an electrical signal, and an image pickup unit side connector 11 configured to perform communication with the outside. The recess 1A is formed of an upper wall 1D, a sidewall 1C, and a back wall 1B and is open forward, rightward and downward. A camera body side connector 12 being connectable to the image pickup unit side connector 11 faces the recess 1A from the sidewall 1C. An engaging protrusion 4g which prevents a connection of the image pickup unit 2 to the back wall 1B at an unnatural posture and angle, when the image pickup unit 2 is placed in the recess 1A and the image pickup unit side connector 11 and the camera body side connector 12 are connected to each other, is provided on the back wall 1B.
