PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-angle lens having a half viewing angle larger than 90°, and excelent in optical performance by correcting aberration satisfactorily though the size is small, and also to provide an optical apparatus having this wide-angle lens. SOLUTION: The wide-angle lens WL that is mounted on an electronic still camera 1, etc. is made up of: a front group GF having negative refractive power; and a rear group GR having positive refractive power. The front group GF is made up of, in order from an object side: a first lens L1 having negative refractive power whose convex surface faces the object side; a second lens L2 having negative refractive power; and a third lens L3 having negative refractive power. The rear group GR is made up of, in order from the object side: a fourth lens L4 having positive refractive power; a fifth lens L5 having positive refractive power; a sixth lens L6 having negative refractive power; and a seventh lens L7 having positive refractive power. The wide-angle lens satisfies a formula: 2<e/h<7, wherein e represents the distance on an optical axis from an image plane to an exit pupil plane of the whole system of the maximum viewing angle, and h represents the maximum image height.
