PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a satisfactory image even if a transfer nip, a transfer material release position, and a transfer material conveyance section-starting position are disposed in a substantially triangular imaginary shape, when transfer is performed in a state where transfer material is gripped. SOLUTION: An image on an intermediate transfer belt 8 is transferred to a transfer material 20 gripped by a gripper 17 in a secondary transfer nip 13a. A first air current-generating device 23 blows an air current, which is controlled by a control section in terms of an amount of air current to be discharged, vertically upward to the transfer material 20 moving to a transfer material conveying section, with the transfer image side of the transfer material 20 facing vertically downward. The final end positionζof the secondary transfer nip, the transfer material release positionε, which is disposed vertically higher than the secondary transfer nip in the direction of transfer material movement, and a transfer-material conveying section starting positionη, which is disposed vertically higher than the transfer material release positionεin the direction of transfer material movement and in which the leading end of the transfer material 20 guided by the second air current generating device 24 first comes into contact with the transfer material conveying section 25, are disposed in the substantially triangular imaginary shape.
