<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a conventional lithium manganate compound cannot realize large volume energy density (discharge capacity per unit volume) and high rate characteristics when used as a positive electrode active material of a secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: A manganate spinel compound replaced by a different metal used here has an average primary particle size of 0.5-1 μm, a BET specific surface area of larger than 1 m<SP>2</SP>/g but no larger than 3 m<SP>2</SP>/g, a tap density of 1.5 g/cm<SP>3</SP>or higher and a ratio of the tap density to the press density of 70% or higher. The different metal is preferably aluminum. More preferably, the crystalline diameter is 550-650 Å and the a axis length of lattice constant is 8.200-8.215 Å. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
