PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus maintaining accuracy in density detection even if a transfer means is deformed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a detection means (controller 101) provided to be opposed to a surface of the transfer means (intermediate transfer belt 25) and detecting Vcln (detection value in the state where a developer image is not formed) and Vpatch (detection value of density of a test image for density detection), based on a test image for density detection; and a control means (controller 101) controlling a place where an image is formed or the test image for density detection is formed based on a result obtained by comparing the Vcln and the Vpatch detected by the detection means.
