PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the operability of a car navigation device on the occasion of retrieving spot information not having latitude and longitude data, when information on a destination or a place being displayed in the device is retrieved through the Internet. SOLUTION: A retrieval region intended to be a retrieval object is set, to perform retrievals at general sites on the Internet as to a place to be a retrieval object, and a place-name character string of a spot contained in the designated retrieval region is extracted. The extracted place-name character string is set in a browser as a retrieval keyword of a retrieval site, and retrievals are performed at general sites. In the designation of the retrieval region, the hierarchy of a place name is changed so as to be at a prefecture-name level to widen the retrieval region, if it is far from a user's own house, and to be at a city level to narrow the retrieval region if it is near the house.
