PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a trifluoromethylcyclopropane compound by using a readily handleable raw material without using trifluoromethyldiazomethane which is hard to handle as a raw material. SOLUTION: There is provided the method for producing the trifluoromethylcyclopropane compound (2) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each as specially defined) including a step of mixing an olefin compound (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each as specially defined) with 2,2,2-trifluoroethylamine or a salt thereof and a nitrite in the presence of a catalyst.
