PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids from alcohols, olefins or α,β-unsaturated aldehydes with high productivity, a method of preparing the catalyst and a method of producing α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids.

SOLUTION: A palladium-containing supported catalyst containing palladium, bismuth and molybdenum is formed for production of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids. The palladium-containing supported catalyst is prepared by causing bismuth and/or molybdenum to be supported with a support and then causing remaining catalyst-constituting ingredients to be supported with the support.
