<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition which is excellent in preservation stability and continuous discharge stability. <P>SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition comprises: at least water; a water-soluble polymerizable compound polymerized by an activity energy line; a water-insoluble coloring material; and a compound, having a repeating unit and an acid group, represented by formula (1). (In formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent group. J represents *-CO- ,*-COO- ,*-CONR<SP>10</SP>- ,*-OCO-, a methylene group, a phenylene group, or a *-C<SB>6</SB>H<SB>4</SB>CO- group. R<SP>10</SP>represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group. W represents a single bond or a divalent linking group. A<SP>1</SP>represents a heterocyclic group or a group represented by formula (2).* represents a site bound to a main chain. In formula (2), any one of R<SP>2</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>is removed to bind to W in formula (1), and three except the one each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent group.
