<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element drive device which can drive a plurality of backlight horizontal line groups that have differing energization timing, when modulating light levels so as to track the scanning of screen display such as liquid crystal display with a backlight region partitioned, for example using local dimming technology. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of frame timing signals are distributed to respective drive channels, and pulse signals with differing drive timing are generated to drive current-drive circuits, whereby a current source for LED driving can be divided into at least two groups, and the start of power supply of each group can be driven at arbitrary timing.
