PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant grease composition that has a higher ignition temperature than that of a conventional grease composition, and exhibits improved load-carrying resistnace and self-extinguishing properties, thus reducing the risk of fire in ironmaking facilities or the like. SOLUTION: The flame retardant grease composition comprises: at least one thickening agent selected from the group consisting of metal soap-based thickening agents and urea-based thickening agents; a mineral oil with a kinematic viscosity of 300 to 1,000 mm<SP>2</SP>/s at 40°C, as a base oil; and a sulfur-based load-carrying additive that contains neither metal nor phosphorus, and contains at least a sulfurized olefin as the load-carrying additive.
