PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means for reducing the production of a byproduct in a method for producing a target substance such as an L-amino acid using a bacterium. SOLUTION: The method for producing a target substance includes culturing the bacterium which produces the target substance such as an L-amino acid in a medium, producing and accumulating the target substance in the medium, and collecting the target substance from the medium, wherein the bacterium is modified so that a system for cell uptake of either a byproduct of the target substance or a substrate for a biosynthesis system of the target substance is enhanced.
