PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily check engagement between a lens drive device side gear and a lens barrel side gear. SOLUTION: The lens drive device has a housing including a case external face and a case internal face, and has in the housing a drive system to be attached to a side of a lens barrel holding an optical system and to face the case internal face and that includes a connection gear to be engaged with a freely rotatable operation ring provided on the circumference of the lens barrel, and a drive motor that rotates and drives the connection gear. The lens barrel adjusts the optical system by rotating the operation ring. The lens drive device includes: a gear opening formed in the case internal face in order to engage the connection gear with the operation ring and provided in order to expose the connection gear to the lens barrel side from the case internal face; and a check window formed in the case internal face independently of the gear opening in order to check the engagement between the connection gear and the operation ring.
