PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing display particles for an image display device capable of repeatedly displaying images with sufficient contrast for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The display particles are used for an image display device having the display particles sealed in between two substrates at least one of which is transparent, and displaying an image by generating an electric field in between the substrates to move the display particles. The display particles contain at least a resin, a colorant and a compound expressed by general formula (1). In the formula, R<SB>1</SB>represents a 4-30C alkyl group or alkenyl group; R<SB>2</SB>represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R<SB>3</SB>represents a 1-4C alkylene group; A represents a carbonyl group or a sulfonyl group; and M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal and ammonium.
