A container closure lining machine comprises a rotatable closure escapement pocket, an infeed channel adapted to guide closures to be lined into the pocket, an exit channel adapted to receive lined closures from the pocket, a chuck rotatable coaxially within the pocket adapted to engage and to rotate a closure being lined within the pocket, means for applying a vacuum to an air passage extending axially of the chuck, means for operating a nozzle in timed relation to rotation of the closure for placing lining compound on closures engaged by the chuck, means for releasing a closure from the chuck after the pocket has completed a major portion of a revolution, and power means for driving the machine. The chuck and the pocket may be independently rotatable, and may be axially reciprocable. The closures may be conveyed into and out of the pocket by means of air jets. Details are given of two constructions, one providing an overall lining and the other an annular lining. Nozzles. To ensure rapid and complete opening and closing of the nozzle orifice, a valve seat 82 is formed in the nozzle tip 83 about <SP>3</SP>/ 32 inch behind the tip opening 84, and a pilot 85 is provided extending beyond the conical portion of the needle 86 which fills the tip bore 87 but lifts free of the bore when the needle is lifted. |
