1,000,379. Pipe couplings. AEROQUIP A.G. July 25, 1962 [Aug. 11, 1961], No. 28654/62. Heading F2G. A self-sealing coupling comprises mating male and female coupling halves having an annular metal seal of triangular cross-section disposed between them. The female coupling member 16 comprises a cylindrical hollow body 20 having an annular shoulder 24 at one end and conduit receiving means 22 at the other, a fixed valve head 32 within said body, a spring 40 operated valve sleeve 34, slidably mounted within said body, having an annular head 36 sealingly engageable with the valve head 32, and a rotatable threaded socket 42 freely mounted on the body portion 20 to engage with the threads of the male portion. The male portion 18 comprises a hollow body 50 containing a slidable spring-operated valve 60 sealingly engaging with an inwardly extending rib 65 having an annular abutment 68 extending axially away from the valve and forming, with the body 50, a pocket 78 receiving a triangularshaped metal sealing ring 80, the ring being a press fit in the pocket. On securing the coupling halves said axially extending abutment 68 unseats the valve sleeve 34 while the fixed valve 32 unseats the slidable valve 60 to form an open passageway (Fig. 5) while the metal sealing ring bites into shoulders 24, 72 to form a fluid-tight seal (Fig. 5).
|
