The processability of formaldehyde polymers or copolymers is improved by adding thereto at least one primary or secondary or tertiary amide of an olefinic unsaturated monocarboxylic acid in which the C=C bond is not conjugated with the C=O bond. Examples of comonomers are styrene, acetaldehyde, halogenated acetaldehyde, epsilon caprolactone, glycidyl ethers, ethylene oxide and dioxolan, while the amide of oleic acid, a mixture of the amides of oleic and palmitic and/or stearic acid, N-palmityl-oleic acid, N-stearyloleic acid, N-N-diethyloleic acid, N-N1-methylene-bis-oleic acid, N-N1-methylene-bis-erucic acid, or the amide of vinyl acetic acid are specified amides. The amide may be added to the polymer or to the monomer. Stabilizers, fillers and pigments may also be present and the polymer or copolymer may be acetylated or etherified. |
