A drive system comprises at least first, second and third tanks A, B, C, the tanks containing first, second and third fluids A1, B1, C1 respectively, the three fluids being kept separate from one another. The first fluid is heated by an electric heating coil 3, and is passed through a first pipe 5 which runs from the first tank, through the second tank, and back into the first tank. The second fluid B1 passes through a second pipe 7 which runs from the second tank, through the third tank, and back into the second tank. A turbine 6 in the first pipe is driven by the fluid passing there through. A turbine 8 in the second pipe is driven by the fluid passing there through, and generates electricity which is fed to the electric heating coil. The first fluid may be carbon dioxide, with a critical temperature of 31°C. The second fluid may be ethylene, with a critical temperature slightly over 9°C. The third fluid may be ozone, with a critical temperature of -5°C.
