The method for removing particulate and/or dissolved substances from aqueous medium, comprises providing ionized air, contacting the ionized air with the aqueous medium having the particulate and/or dissolved substances, and separating the particulate and/or dissolved substances from the aqueous medium through the ionized air, where the total organic carbon value of the aqueous medium during the separation is not more than 10%. The ionization of the air is carried out in an ionisator (7) at a voltage of 1-3 kV. The medium contains particulate and/or dissolved substances, which consist of microorganisms, proteins, peptides, organic acids and other organic compounds and/or vegetable or animal cell structures. The separation of the particulate and/or dissolved substances is carried out through sedimentation using a hydrocyclone, a centrifuge, and/or micro-or ultrafiltration membranes and/or the energy input is less than 0.8 W/l in the aqueous medium and/or the micro-and ultrafiltration membranes are used in separation step and/or the separation of particulate and/or dissolved substances is initially carried out through the hydrocyclone with a porous immersion pipe and then to micro-or ultrafiltration membranes.
