PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for discharging stored power are provided to improve the efficiency of a power supply circuit by discharging the power stored in an EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) filter circuit when a power supply circuit is not operated. CONSTITUTION: A sensing unit(151) generates a sensing signal by determining whether AC power is inputted to an input terminal or not. At least one power consumption unit(153) is connected to an EMI filter circuit(13) and the sensing unit. The power consumption unit discharges power stored in the EMI filter circuit according to the sensing signal of the sensing unit. The sensing unit is a voltage multiplier circuit.
