LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY AND LOCAL DIMMING CONTROL METHOD OF THEREOF

PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and local dimming control method thereof are provided to reduce the size of an operation algorithm due to calculating the gain value of a local dimming and to increase the contrast ratio of a display image. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display panel(10) has a plurality of pixels. A backlight unit(16) includes a plurality of light sources. The light is irradiated in the rear side of the liquid crystal display panel. A backlight operating circuit drives the light source based on dimming value. A local dimming control circuit(14) controls the diming value based on the analysis result of input data. The local dimming control circuit recompenses the gain value of each pixel in order to compensate the luminance change due to the dimming value.
