The photovoltaic module has a substrate with a semiconductor layer, which is formed between two contact layers. A structured external contact layer is formed as a structured solar cell by corroding. An electrically conducting contact layer is the non conducting area of the external contact layer. The etching agent for corroding is the contact layer of acidic copper chloride solution. An independent claim is also included for a method for structuring a solar cell.
