PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starter of a power train which is simple and capable of securing reliability of a clutch, achieving stabilized engine stop control, and quickly switching to a drive state even when there is a starting demand in a neutral state. SOLUTION: The engine starter is equipped with a planetary gear mechanism including a first rotational element and a second rotational element, input/output shafts, a clutch means, and a brake means, and has a specific mode for releasing the clutch means and fastening the brake means. The clutch means is structured to be in a drive state when fastened and in a neutral state when released. In the specific mode, the first rotational element is fixed when the mode is selected with the output shaft in a fixed state. A stop restarting control means starts transfer to the specific mode (t0) before the stop of fuel supply (t3) during execution of the engine automatic stop control, and fastens the clutch means so that the fastening is completed at a predetermined period (t8-t9) thereafter.
