The staircase has individual steps with a foothold and a slope with a straight or coiled course. The steps are provided with lifting plates (1,2,3) which raise or lower the users to the slope. One lifting plate is present before a step on the lower podium. The lifting plates are elevated or lowered by an electric motor drive over three spindles. The spindles are synchronously driven by a drive belt or a chain.
