A golf club head with a front end 12, a rear end and a reinforced crown 36 includes ribs 34 in the crown the distances separating the rear end of adjacent ribs are greater than the distance separating the front end of adjacent ribs. Preferably at least two of the longitudinal axes of the ribs intersect at a common point forward of the front of the body 40. Optionally at least half of the ribs are non-interconnected to another rib. This arrangement of ribs significantly increases the fundamental structural frequency of the club head and significantly reduces the peak stress in the crown of the club head when compared with ribs extending perpendicular to the front wall and parallel to each other. Optionally the ribs have a generally convex cross section and are tapered towards the front and rear walls. |
