The system has two energy sources i.e. fuel cell stacks, which are arranged in a non-grounded power supply system and connected in parallel by a circuitry. Insulation monitoring devices are attached to energy sources for monitoring an insulation state of the non-grounded power supply system. A control device is provided such that operation of one of the monitoring devices is disabled during operation of the other monitoring device depending on the associated energy sources. Determination is made by the control device whether malfunctioning of the energy sources is present. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a fuel cell system for a vehicle.
