A bi-stable circuit operable with unipolar input signals comprises a tunnel diode 13 in shunt with the base-emitter circuit of a transistor 14, and another diode 15 applying negative feedback from collector to base. When the transistor is non-conducting, the VI curve for the diode 15 intersects that of the tunnel diode in its low-voltage region. A negative input pulse lifts the curve of diode 15 above the peak point of the tunnel diode curve, and the intersection now occurs at the valley point. The transistor and diode 15 now conduct and an output is obtained at 26. The next negative pulse lifts the curve of diode 15 once more, but on termination of this pulse the stored charge in the transistor drives a reverse current through dicde 15 to lower its curve below the original level and switch the tunnel dicde back to its original state. The circuit may be driven by the monostable tunnel diode circuit of Specification 1,057,821. It may also be used as a scale-of-two divider. |
